Segments
Create reusable audiences from customer properties and activity.
Segments let you define an audience once and use it across your Experiences. You can group customers by their properties, activity, subscription, or access, then show them something relevant—an onboarding reminder for people who haven’t finished setup, for example.
You define the conditions, and membership follows the customer data Nuxie receives. You don’t need to maintain a list of customer IDs yourself.
Create a Segment
Name the audience
Open Segments and choose Create Segment. Enter a Segment Name and an optional description, then choose Create Segment to save it.
Define the conditions
On the new Segment’s Overview tab, add the Segment Conditions that describe your audience.
Save the conditions
Choose Save Changes to apply the conditions. Cancel discards your unsaved edits.
Customer properties and app events come from your SDK integration. Billing connections provide the purchase and access information used by subscription and Feature conditions.
Condition types
Customer properties
Select a property and compare its value. You can use exact matches, text matching, numeric and date comparisons, or check whether the property is missing.
For a list of possible values, choose is one of or is not one of and enter comma-separated values. is set and is not set check whether the property exists, which is useful for customers who haven’t provided information yet. Learn more about Customer properties.
Other Segments
You can include customers who belong to another Segment or who are outside it. This lets you reuse an audience as part of a more specific one. For example, combine an existing Active customers Segment with a condition for customers who haven’t subscribed.
Segments can’t refer to themselves or form a circular dependency through other Segments.
Subscriptions and Feature access
Subscription conditions let you select customers with active, inactive, trialing, expired, renewing, or non-renewing subscriptions.
Feature conditions let you choose a particular capability and match customers who have access, don’t have access, or have unlimited usage. You can also use the Feature grant’s trial, active, expiration, and renewal state. This is useful when several Products grant the same capability and you want to target by access rather than one plan.
Credit balances
Choose a credit system and compare its balance with a quantity. You can match an exact amount, an amount above or below a threshold, or an inclusive limit such as At least or At most. For example, an audience with fewer than five creative credits can receive a top-up offer.
Event conditions
Event conditions select customers based on what they’ve done in your app. Choose an event, the behavior to look for, and a time period.
You can match customers who completed an event, didn’t complete it, or completed it for the first time. For repeated activity, specify at least, at most, or exactly how many times it should have happened.
You can also look for a sequence of two events, a sequence that wasn’t completed, or activity repeated regularly across periods. Stopped doing event and Started doing event again help you build audiences around changes in a customer’s habits.
Add event-property filters when you want to count only certain occurrences. For example, workout_completed with workout_type equal to strength counts strength workouts. The time period matters too: completing one in the last seven days describes a different audience from completing one last month.
Condition groups
Within a group, choose all when every condition must match, or any when one is enough. You can apply the same all/any choice between groups to combine more complex audiences.
For an onboarding follow-up, one group could require onboarding_started in the last seven days and no onboarding_completed event during that period. A second group could require onboarding_complete to equal false and a recent account creation date. Set the relationship between groups to any to include customers matching either group.
You can add, duplicate, and remove groups as you edit the definition.
Membership
Open the Segment’s Customers tab to see its members. On an individual Customer profile, the Segments tab shows active and exited memberships, including when the customer joined.
Membership uses your saved conditions and the data available to Nuxie. If a customer isn’t in the audience you expected, their property types, event names, and the condition’s time period are useful places to look. An absent property is different from an explicit false value.
Target an Experience
Select the Segment as part of an Experience’s audience. The Segment determines who qualifies, while the trigger determines when the Experience can start. The customer’s re-entry rules still apply.
The Segment’s Usage tab shows Experiences that use it. Editing the conditions updates this shared audience, so the change also affects Experiences that refer to it.
You can use joining or leaving a Segment as a trigger or conversion goal. Both depend on a new entry or exit; a customer who already belongs to a Segment hasn’t just joined it.
